When I was growing up, one of my favorite things about the holidays was our family ski trips to Lake Tahoe. As a San Francisco city kid, I loved the novelty of snow and the quiet beauty of the forest – so different from my everyday life, and so magnificent.
On occasion, we would get snowed in. These were my favorite times of all.
It was always just the four of us in the cabin – my father, my mother, my sister, and me. We’d build a fire in the wood-burning stove and get cozy, then play board games, make hot cocoa, read, or just sit and watch the snow fall.
We couldn’t have left the cabin if we tried, but none of us wanted to. We felt complete, and so content to be right where we were.
As we head into the holidays, I always make it a priority to slow down and focus on this feeling of peace, and I cherish my time with loved ones.
I wish the same for you as well.
Here’s to friends, family, love…and being snowed in.
