Beanies are quintessential for winter styling and one of the most versatile and functional hats, well, ever. There's no wrong way to wear a beanie (just try and prove us wrong — we dare ya), but there's definitely more than one right way to wear one. Originally common headgear for dockworkers and sailors, we thought it best to show the ways to wear a beanie and make it look stylish with a classic American workwear inspired twist.
Mark wearing our Dockyard beanie in front of his Tenderloin based shop, Handsome Oxford.
Handsome Oxford, an unique vintage menswear shop with a focus on celebrating American made, American manufacturing and the American craft, was really just the perfect place to go to for outdoor and workwear apparel. We asked Handsome Oxford shop owner Mark Cruzada to style three staple Goorin Bros. beanies using his personal collection of American vintage clothing. Mark, being his unknowingly-eccentric-yet-totally-stylish self, was up for the challenge and styled three outfits around our beanies, all with his clothing, in his classic American workwear way.
1. High Camp: The Cuffed Beanie
High Camp, our American made ribbed cuff beanie, comes in a custom heart shaped pattern. Cozy, casual and sailor-like, the cuffed beanie pairs well with a color blocked anorak jacket and a worn in pair of Chuck Taylors, both which add that American outdoor touch. With anything patterned, solids like a chambray button-up, and classic, rolled up denim jeans are an easy go-to for balancing the outfit.
2. Peekaboo St.: The Oversized Beanie
An oversized beanie can be worn with the cuff down or done up, and extra fabric can be pulled down and tucked into the back. With Peekaboo St.'s mohair blended texture and volume, we recommend keeping the outfit sleek by contrasting it with a leather jacket, graphic Tee and a pair of well fitted jeans. Rad oxfords are optional.
3. Skintight II: The "Skintight" Beanie, Obviously
A solid, ribbed, and well fitted beanie like Skintight II is simple in design, so it should be paired with clothing that is either multicolored or patterned (or both!). We recommend balancing out the outfit by adding some spice into the mix: a plaid button-up shirt, a bright layer like a red parka, and of course denim and some cool statement shoes.
Warm up and shop our selection of classic beanies, scarves and gloves online or at one of our Goorin Bros. Hat Shops. From everything pre-1970s, a mix of American workwear and outdoor clothing, and just an unique San Francisco shopping experience, we recommend a visit to Handsome Oxford in the heart of Tenderloin at 646 Hyde.
