Portland, Oregon is home to many beards... so many, in fact, that one can scarcely walk down the street without tripping over one! Thus, our Nob Hill hat shop hosted the First Annual "Hats Off to Beards" Competition last month. In attendance were sixty or so of the rowdy Portland Beardsmen and their bawdy, boastful beards. One happy partygoer even dressed up in a full Abraham Lincoln costume! It was a night was full of camaraderie, booze, hats, and facial hair of all shapes and sizes.

The talented creators of this video are Goorin's very own Daryl-Lynn Ramsay and Elijah Yutuc. "With [Elijah's] skills in photography, we instantly knew we should do a stop motion piece! We were very inspired by our hat shop and knew we wanted to integrate it," Ramsay explains about the idea that took a year to come alive. She adds, "It actually only took a few weeks to get the shooting done and since then I've been compositing, editing and getting the sound done on my spare time." Truly a passion project, "The Hat Shop" is a great example of the talent we have right under our brims.

Last month, our Old Town hat shop in Pasadena, CA hosted a night inspired by the islands. Havana Nights showcased our latest straw and panama hats along with Mursuli Cigars - a third generation family owned Cuban company. Their heritage and craftsmanship is tasted and felt with every breath, much like how our dedication to quality is seen in every weave of a hand-woven straw hat.

We celebrated the grand opening of our second Canadian hat shop in true Goorin fashion - with a roaring party full of dapper folks in bold attire from head to toe. Queen St. West Hat Shop in Toronto has only been open for a few months and we already feel at home.
Live music provided by The Sudden Valley Boys kept the mood lively as guests tried on hats and got to know our merchants. Ben Goorin himself hatted locals with our newest styles. We'd like to thank all those who attended and helped celebrate the special day with us.
It was truly a night to remember and best believe we're here to stay Toronto. View more photos here.
