The Cedar River is a whiskey colored boater style hat with a 3.5" flat wide brim. The crown is more shallow sitting at 3.75" compared to some of our other toquilla styles. The leather hat band gives an amazing texture to this hat.
The major characteristics of the "gaucho style" is the flat top or flat crown and wide flat brim can be made with wool or fur felt. Generally if this same shape is made in straw it is referred to as a boater style. Some other names for this style hat can be gambler or bolero hats.
Historically, the gaucho style was started by the original cowboys of Argentina and Uruguay in the 18th and 19th centuries. Stylistically now, you can totally wear this style with any outfit! You're not limited to a cowboy style look to make this hat stand out - trust us, any of these gaucho and boater styles will have heads turning.
For cooler weather: layering denim textures and patterned shirts/jackets and some chelsea boots creates a modern yet simple look where the hat is still the major stylistic piece. // For warmer weather: A linen button-down shirt or a flowy dress will fit perfectly in with your boater style.
What I love about Cedar River compared to some of my other gaucho styles in the past is living in the South we are able to wear straw longer throughout the year (the perfect straw season in Tennessee is basically April - October!) What's great about this particular hat is the whiskey brown color - it will absolutely NOT scream summer hat or "the hat you only wear to the beach or on a boat." Because of the darker color it transitions perfectly into Fall with heavier fabrics and earth tones in your wardrobe regardless of where you live.
