What You Will Be Doing
The Goorin Designer is responsible for developing ideas and executing product designs in line with the conceptual direction for a season. The designer should have a deep understanding of apparel production and design. The ideal candidate is a meticulous and collaborative team player with at least five years of experience in a similar field.
They will partner closely with individuals internally in Merchandising, Product Development, and Brand Marketing.
The Designer will initiate concepts each season that are driven and reflective of the creative vision and Goorin aesthetic. You will be a part of a dynamic, creative environment where you will collaborate closely with talented cross-functional partners in the business.
- Own design process from initial inspiration to final prototype, responsible for the product life cycle including market trend research, inspiration, computer flat sketching, specifications, fit, and ensuring that product is designed to meet needs.
- Collaborate with the team to select seasonal themes, make edits to the line, create new concepts, and identify/select fabrics and trims.
- Present story, mood, color boards, and inspirational samples to the team.
- Develop Technical design specs for all products in the Product Lifecycle Management System (Backbone) while maintaining accuracy.
- Generate compelling and professional digital presentations for seasonal sketches, colors, and materials, utilizing appropriate digital platforms.
- Review samples for quality and design callouts in both the development and production phases.
- Proactively review existing procedures and offer suggestions for improvement as appropriate.
- Responsible for timeline adherence; ensure all design documentation is delivered to development partners on time.
- Create and execute the vision; ensuring that the product is consistent with market trends while maintaining the brand identity and overall business strategy.
- Responsible for the specialty design groups: hats, apparel, bags, packaging, and labeling.
- Work closely with cross-functional members of the team, participating in seasonal line reviews to ensure a cohesive product line is realized; provide recommendations regarding seasonal themes.
- Build strong relationships with the merchandising partners to define the seasonal framework and ensure that creative ideas and business goals are aligned.
- Partner closely with the product development team to ensure design packages are complete and accurate and desired outcome of the product is achieved.
Domestic or Overseas travel to factories for seasonal product development as needed.
Skills and Experience Required
- Ability to sketch both technical drawings and freeform sketches and renderings.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Goorin product and customer, with a keen ability to make decisions and implement strategy based on new information and evolving trends.
- Proficient in Illustrator/Photoshop/InDesign and Backbone PLM, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Work under deadlines, manage multiple priorities and independently coordinate work within the team.
- 4-6 years of work experience or equivalent experience in product development or design; preferably in retail/fashion space.
- Knowledge of development/production cycle timeline.
- Passion and excitement for the retail/fashion industry (super bonus: you love hats!).
- Ability to be flexible and agile with constant changes and time restraints; learn on-the-fly.
- Strong communication (written & oral), problem-solving, and follow-up skills; must act as a proactive team player.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills; able to juggle multiple priorities.
- A sense of urgency in managing time and accomplishing tasks.
- Able to work as a member of a team.
