measure YOUR HEAD

Step 1

STEP 1

Locate a soft, flexible seamstress tape measure. Determine the widest portion of your head, typically starting just above the eyebrows and in the rear, you may feel a slight knot on the back of your skull.

No soft tape measure? Simply cut a 30” piece of string and grab a yard stick.

Using a mirror, place the tape so that centimeters are visible starting at the front and wrap it comfortably around your head covering the widest portion until it overlaps above the eyebrows and ears.

If using a string method, follow the steps above. Mark on the string where it overlaps so that you can lay it down against the yard stick to determine the length in inches.

You should be left with a measurement between 52 & 63 centimeters. Use our provided conversion chart below to determine your appropriate hat size. Enjoy.

Anything you'll feel confident wearing.

Those who have never worn a hat before tend to start with something
short to medium, around 2.5 inches or shorter. Our Dean the Butcher is a popular choice for this reason. Once you get comfortable with that, it'll be easy for you to decide to go up or down in brim size.

Otherwise, the best trick is to wear a hat that sits within your frame. If you have narrow shoulders, try a short-to-medium brim; if you have wide shoulders, a wide brim may suit you best to fill out your frame.

It's always best to wear hats around for a couple days to get accustomed to them. After you've overcome the initial distraction of seeing something larger than usual on your head, you'll be able to assess your preferences.

An awesome hat

I got my Nighthawk last August and I love it. I work as an actor for the Utah Shakespeare Festival and I tend to put my hat back on during ny intermission break. So the attached photo is me dressed in costume for a play set in ancient Tyre and the lands around it but wearing my Nighthawk and I think it compliments my 500 BC outfit damn well. See? It don't matter what century your style of clothing might be from a Goorin hat will always make it better.

Greatest looking hat

The Night Hawk is the best looking hat that I have. I'm using it as my regular winter wear along with a pair of 180 ear covers. I bought a red and black feather to brighten up one side, and can't say how pleased I am with the purchase of this hat.
