measure YOUR HEAD

Step 1

STEP 1

Locate a soft, flexible seamstress tape measure. Determine the widest portion of your head, typically starting just above the eyebrows and in the rear, you may feel a slight knot on the back of your skull.

No soft tape measure? Simply cut a 30” piece of string and grab a yard stick.

Step 2

Using a mirror, place the tape so that centimeters are visible starting at the front and wrap it comfortably around your head covering the widest portion until it overlaps above the eyebrows and ears.

If using a string method, follow the steps above. Mark on the string where it overlaps so that you can lay it down against the yard stick to determine the length in inches.

You should be left with a measurement between 52 & 63 centimeters. Use our provided conversion chart below to determine your appropriate hat size. Enjoy.

Those who have never worn a hat before tend to start with something
short to medium, around 2.5 inches or shorter. Our Dean the Butcher is a popular choice for this reason. Once you get comfortable with that, it'll be easy for you to decide to go up or down in brim size.

Otherwise, the best trick is to wear a hat that sits within your frame. If you have narrow shoulders, try a short-to-medium brim; if you have wide shoulders, a wide brim may suit you best to fill out your frame.

It's always best to wear hats around for a couple days to get accustomed to them. After you've overcome the initial distraction of seeing something larger than usual on your head, you'll be able to assess your preferences.

Style For Days

At first I couldn't believe I was going to spend $300 on a hat but I wanted to ditch the cheap ones I'd bought in the past and see what a good quality hat does for me and man let me tell you, there is no comparison. I can pair this hat with almost anything fall and winter. Going to get a brown one for my spring and fall outfits.

Totem Hat

Been looking for "the one" for years now, and within 30 seconds of putting Aw Shoot on, I knew this was the one. Leather band feels comfortable and soft. Look is just rugged enough, looks good dressed up or with shirt and jeans. This hat just feels right when it goes on your head. I'm so impressed with this hat from Goorin I intend to buy one of their straw varieties for summer. I wear this hat almost daily and hope it continues to hold up for years. If this hat is on your radar, buy it, you won't be disappointed. ​I was between L and XL on the measurement chart, bought the L and it's a good fit. A little foam in the headband and it's just snug enough to not fly off.
